John C. McQuade enlisted at San Francisco, California, on September 14, 1861, as a sergeant and was mustered into Company B, 2nd California Cavalry. He died of disease at Tucson, Arizona. Sgt. McQuade's grave in the Historical Cemetery (HC) of the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery contains partial remains recovered from his original gravesite in Tucson, Arizona, during an archeological dig in 2007. The bulk of his remains were transferred to San Francisco National Cemetery in the 1890's where he rests under his name, Section WS, Site 1293.
