Rose Whitener Pitts
Rose Whitener Pitts, 94, of 2441 South Center St., died Sunday at an area hospital following a period of declining health.
Born July 5, 1893, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Leola Peterson Whitener.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Pitts and a son, Austin Pitts.
Survivors include a son, Charles Pitts of Hickory; four daughters, Helen Weaver, Velda McGalliard and Eunice Poston of Hickory and Maude Lackey of Charleston, Va.; 15 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Nevin Feather and Jamie Fonville at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith United Church of Christ where she was a member.
Burial will be in Bethel United Church of Christ Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will be at Bass-Smith Funeral Home from 7 until 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at the home of a granddaughter, Susan Byers, 623 Seventh St., SW.
