MERIDIAN —
Services for Walter Lee "Mickey" Ables will be held Wednesday, at 1 p.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Revs. Michael Sims and Davey Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ables, 65, of Meridian, died Sunday, Mar. 20, 2011, at his residence. He retired from the Lauderdale County Sheriff Department after 20 years. Mr. Ables was a Shriner and a Mason at St. John #507. He served in the Air National Guard with the 186th, and was part owner of Southern Automatic Transmission.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Ables of Meridian; two daughters: Rebecca Ann Sims and her husband Michael of Meridian, and Patricia Ann Chaney and fiancé JoJo Harrison of Meridian; sister, Shirley Jewel Harris of Cookesville, Tenn.; brother, Willard Buddy Ables of Saraland, Ala.; three grandchildren: Kayla Nicole Kirkpatrick and her husband Bobby of Meridian, Parker Gray Chaney of Meridian, and Gavin Lee Chaney of Meridian; one great-grandchild, Kaleb Gauge Kirkpatrick; and, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Louise Ables; two sisters: Bobbie Jo Glisson and Frances Durant; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Daisy Felks.
Pallbearers will be Sheriff Billy Sollie, Ward Calhoun, Byron Brown, Paul Tadlock, Steve Spears, and Joe White.
Visitation will be held today, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
