"Karl" as he was known was born 28 Oct 1843 in Bavaria, Germany to Gottleib Lurz and Crescentia Hoeld Lurz. He was the third of 10 children. He 1st married Eva Schnelle in 1867 in Germany. They had 5 children. Eva died in Germany in 1884. Karl hired a woman named Mary Wagner to take care of the children and the household. Karl was superintendent of a large brickyard and later became owner of the brickyard. On the 18th of Mar 1891, Karl came to America on the ship Waesland. He brought his family and Mary Wagner with him. Later, Karl and Mary were married. Karl worked as a brickmason in Buffalo, New York for 4 years before moving to Nebraska in 1894. He lived in Wood Lake and Valentine, both in Cherry County.
