"Anna Mary Abel, 84, of 131 Nevin St., Lancaster, died unexpectedly Tuesday. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Ernest and Louise Elenora Grossman Ewing. She was the wife of the late John Abel, who died in 1979. She was a graduate of the East Lampeter High School, class of 1941. Mary was a long distance traffic department telephone operator for over 37 years for Bell Telephone. She was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Bell Telephone Retirees. Mary enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and traveling. Surviving are two sisters: Kitty L. Snyder, Lancaster, and Minnie Reese, Lititz; and a son-in-law, Patrick H. Batutis, Mountain Top, Pa. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Batutis; and a brother, Ralph Ewing."
