Beloved daughter of George Kenneth and Helen M Bassford; sister of George Kenneth Bassford Jr, cousin of Kathy Bassford, died instantly of injuries sustained in a single car rollover accident on Gallows Road in the Dunn Loring/Tysons Corner area, while responding to an emergency call on duty as a sworn officer of the Fairfax County Police Department.
Karen was formerly an Emergency Police Dispatcher with Arlington County Police Department, Arlington County, Virginia.

Police Officer Karen Bassford was killed in an automobile accident on Gallows Road, near Merry Oaks Lane, while responding to a burglary call shortly after midnight.
As she was coming around a curve her vehicle spun out of control and struck a utility pole. Officer Bassford was thrown from the vehicle. She was transported to Fairfax Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Officer Bassford was assigned to the McLean Substation. She had been with the department for one year and had served on the Arlington County Sheriff's Department for two years. She was survived by her parents.
