Mr. Hardegree was born January 1, 1925, in Winters to Herbert Talton and Nora Jimmie Hardegree. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1945, serving in Italy as a B-17 armament specialist. He married Ruth Woodell on October 19, 1947, in Colorado City; they enjoyed 51 years of marriage before her death. For thirty-five years he worked for American National Insurance. He was a member of Woodlawn Church of Christ and was a loving and passionate Papaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by two sons: Eric Lowell Hardegree and wife Robbin, and Mark Kenneth Hardegree; one brother, Jimmy Hardegree and wife Rita of Colorado City; and four grandchildren: Emily, Mary, Katie, and Evan and wife Kimberly, all of Abilene.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Windcrest Alzheimer Care Center, 6050 Hospital Drive, Abilene, Texas 79606.
