Scientist. A prominent anatomist, she conducted research at Johns Hopkins University and published "An Atlas of Medulla and Midbrain". She was the first woman elected president of the American Association of Anatomists (1924), as well as the first woman elected to the Natinal Academy of Sciences (1925). From 1925 to 1938 she conducted research on tuberculosis at Rockefeller University. Her statue was placed by the state of Colorado in Statuary Hall in the United States Capitol in Washington DC.
