Rome -Lucius Morrell "Luke" Cobb, Jr., 81, of 4 Timothy Ave., Rome, GA, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007 in Rome. Mr. Cobb was born in Bainbridge, GA, on September 27, 1925, the son of the late Lucius Morrell Cobb, Sr., and Dottie Thompson Cobb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Cobb and Hazel Fields. He was a graduate of Savannah High School where he excelled in sports, making all-state as a football guard. He was also a graduate of Armstrong College in Savannah and Mississippi State University where he ran track. Prior to retirement, Mr. Cobb was the owner and operator of Workmore Products. He came to Rome in 1954 as manager of the Georgia Finance Co., and had been an active member of the First United Methodist Church and Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class since that time. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army in the Pacific. Survivors include his wife, Helen Kendall Hayes Cobb, to whom he was married November 24, 1951; two sons, Luke Cobb, III, Cookeville, TN, and Tom Cobb and his wife, Dot Higgins Cobb, Peachtree City; two daughters, Kendall Cobb Clotfelter, and her husband, Charles, Punta Gorda, FL, and Catherine Cobb Ellis, Rome; five granddaughters, Emily Sweitzer and her husband, Captain Wesley Sweitzer, Cabot, AR, Elizabeth Catherine Babb and her husband, Will, Cookeville, TN, Julia Kendall Brock, Santa Barbara, CA, Sarah Shattuck Ellis, Rome, and Kristin Dawes Cobb, Peachtree City; one grandson, Preston Hayes Cobb, Peachtree City; three great grandchildren, Phoebe Babb, Luke Babb and Ben Sweitzer; one sister, Marjorie Langford, and her husband, Glenn, Atlanta; one brother -in-law Aubrey Hayes, Orlando, FL; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2007 at First United Methodist Church, Rome. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Network Day Services Center, P. O.
