Donald C. "Buddy" Kelly, 64, Mayor of Shallotte, NC died Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Kelly was born September 26, 1946 in Ash, NC to the late Wilbur and Dorothy Babson Kelly. He was a United States Army Veteran. He was retired from DuPont after thirty years of service. Before being elected mayor Buddy served on the Planning Board and then was elected to the Board of Aldermen. He was the Town's Cape Fear Council of Government's Representative and a very active community leader. He was well respected in the community and well thought of by the Board and Staff.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Leanne and Rhiannon Marie Kelly.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years Lucinda C. Kelly; a daughter Tessa Kelly of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; four brothers Kenneth Kelly, wife Michelle, of Charlotte, NC, Jackie Kelly of Kernersville, NC, Terris Kelly, wife Suzanne, of Valdez, AK, and Barry Lynn Kelly, wife Debbie, of Winston-Salem, NC; and a sister Inez K. Jones of Ash, NC.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 3:00 PM in Calvary Baptist Church by the Reverend Sam Murphy and Chris Phelps. Burial will follow in New Britton Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 4, 2011 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Casketbearers will be the Shallotte Volunteer Fire Department. Honorary casketbearers will be the Town of Shallotte's Employees and Shallotte Aldermen.
