Private Services Held Thursday For Cpl. Wilbur Ueck

Private family funeral services were held Thursday at 10 a.m. for Corporal Wilbur E. Ueck at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ueck, 631 Broadway, Benton Harbor. Cpl. Ueck was killed in action on New Guinea, Dec. 4, 1942, and his body arrived in Benton Harbor Wednesday evening. Gold Star Mothers, Navy Mtohers, World War II Mothers, and a group from the American Legion Post 105 met the train. The Rev. H. C. Haase of the St. Matthew's church officiated at the funeral services and Mrs. Anna Kent sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.: Burial was made in the Stevensville cemetery. Military rites were conducted at the grave by American Legion Commander Solon Emery. Taps were sounded and a salute was fired by Harry Yampolske, Lester herman, Louis Ladyga, Ed Cronin, James Butts, and Robert Steels, Legionnaires. Casket bearers were Lloyd Huff, John Krittner, Edmund Bahm, Elmer Geik, Ray Ives, and John Miller. (The News-Palladium, Benton Harbor, MI, Friday, July 16, 1948, p. 15, Col. 6)
