Mrs. Kate R. Merris, 86 a sister of the late County Judge John H McCoy, died at 5:15 am Saturday in Memorial hospital,Houston, Tex. A lifelong resident of Macon County, Mrs. Merris had gone to Houston in 1943 to make her home with a daughter, Mrs.Helen F.Maxwell.She had been ill for the last three weeks.
A resident of Decatur since 1918 she was a member of the First Methodist church.
Mrs. Merris was born near Oakley Jan. 8, 1862, the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Minerva Helm McCoy. She was married to Daniel A. Merris near Oakley Jan 8, 1883. He died Sept 13, 1935.
Besides her daughter, Mrs. Maxwell, she leaves two sons, Corporation Counsel Byron M. Merris, Decatur and Ralph Merris, Tacoma, Wash. There is one brother C.V.McCoy, Miami, Fla. There are four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The body will be brought to the Dawson & Wikoff funeral home. Funeral services in the chapel with burial in Fairlawn cemetery.
