Miss Margaret Speir

BILOXI - Miss Margaret Stephens Speir, 95, of Biloxi died Thursday, July 21, 1988, in Ocean Springs.

She was a retired schoolteacher and former elementary school principal.

Miss Speir was a lifelong resident of Bilooxi and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was principal of Dukate Elementary School on East Howard Avenue for many years and taught education for 45-1/2 years before retiring in 1960.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and had been named Woman of the Year by Biloxi Businesswomen and Outstanding Citizen by the American Legion.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Speir. Survivors include one niece, Mrs. Betty Hubbell of Hurley.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 until 9 at the Howard Avenue chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home of Biloxi. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bradford-O'Keefe with burial in Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi.

NOTE: According to family, Margaret's middle name was May. The "S" on the headstone was for Margaret's mother's maiden name of Stephens.
