Thomas N. (Doc) Harris, 78, died Sunday morning after a long illness at a Nampa nursing home.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dakan Chapel in Caldwell by the Rev. Edward E. Dixon of the Franklin Community Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Kohlerlawn. The Oddfellows will conduct a graveside service.
Mr. Harris was born Aug. 30, 1890, in Stanton, Neb. He came to Idaho with his parents in 1902 and settled near Nampa. He attended public schools in Nampa and the Nampa Business College.
He worked on construction of both the upper and lower Lake Lowell dams. In 1912 he homesteaded in the Riverside community. He married Elizabeth E. Harsin of Nampa Jan. 1, 1913. She died in 1947.
Mr. Harris was a pioneer in irrigation development in Canyon County and served as director on the Wilder Irrigation Board for 26 years. He was engaged in the livestock business in Canyon and Owyhee counties for over 40 years until his retirement in 1958.
He has been a member of the Oddfellows lodge in Caldwell for more than 40 years.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Benson of Culver, Ore.; one son, Jack Harris, of Caldwell; one brother, Charles, of Caldwell; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Stover, Portland, Ore,; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A son, George, preceded him in death in 1964.
Flowers may be sent or memorials may be given to the Idaho Youth Ranch at Rupert. Friends may call at the Dakan chapel this evening and Tuesday morning until the time of service.
