FLETCHER – George "G.D." Allen, age 81, of Fletcher died Friday, February 25, 2011.
Mr. Allen was born September 6, 1929, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He started working in a sawmill in 1940 and worked with trees all of his life. He was a faithful member of Crossroads Assembly and enjoyed helping others. He was a son of the late Clarence and Della Shepherd Allen also preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Allen.
Surviving are his daughter, Jeanette Shook of Fletcher; sister, Edith Allison of Etowah; brother, Ted Allen of Asheville; grandchildren, Allen Shook and wife Deanette of Fletcher, Chris Shook and wife Chrissy of Athens, GA, Jamie Keener and husband Jeff of Franklin; and great grandchildren, Danielle Keener and Zane Keener of Franklin and Ian Shook of Athens.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 28, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Revs. George Patterson and Dean Metcalf officiating. Burial will be in Maney Cemetery, Mars Hill.
