NEWS OF MURRAY H.S. T.C. STAFF MEMBER DIES
Mrs. Belle McMurry Walker Died in Shelbyville.
MURRAY, KY Oct 22nd.
Mr. Belle McMurry Walker, instructor of science at Murray state is tonight at the Shelbyville hospital, Shelbyville, following a stroke at paralysis which she suffered two months ago at Murray. She will be buried at her home, Lawrenceburg, Thursday afternoon at 2:30.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the original faculty of the college, coming to Murray in the fall of 1923, while classes were still being held in the high school. She was the first head of the department of science. She had her bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky and had done graduate work in the University of Wisconsin and Columbia University. She taught for a time at the University of Kentucky and Eastern State Teachers College, Richmond. She was an instructor in Lawrenceburg High school prior to coming to Murray. Mrs. Walker suffered an injury to her hip in August, 1927, and was in the Mason Memorial Hospital, Murray, until January of the next year. She recovered and was able to resume her duties. On July 22 of last year she was taken to the hospital where she was stricken with paralysis. She was taken to Shelbyville in September. She was born in Lawrenceburg, Ky. She is survived by two sons, Tom and A. W. Walker of Lucile, Idaho.
