RURAL HALL - Jack Oliver Bovender Sr., 83, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, after a brief illness.

He was a former R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. supervisor and a 3rd Division Marine and World War II veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva W. Bovender; his parents, Luther and Carrie Bovender; a sister, June Lanier; and two brothers, James Bovender and Luther Gray "L.G." Bovender Jr. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack O. Bovender Jr. of Nashville, Tenn., and Phillip E. Bovender of Baltimore, Md.; a grandson, Richard S. Bovender, of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister, Doris Foreman, of Winston-Salem.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Poplar Springs Church of Christ in King. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church family life center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Eva W. Bovender Scholarship Fund at Winston-Salem State University School of Nursing, 601 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27011.
