WARD, Thelma Marie Crigger, 73, of Rural Retreat, died early Thursday, February 4, 1999, at her residence. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Eugene and Fannie Edmonds Crigger. Mrs. Ward was a member of the Rural Retreat Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a son, Dale Ward; and a brother, Doug Crigger. She is survived by her husband, Sam Hale Ward of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Roger Rich of Rural Retreat; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Charlene Ward of McMinnville, Tenn., and Dan and Darlene Ward of Rural Retreat; two sisters and brother-in-law, Blanche McAllister of Speedwell, and Rita and Gene Walters of Max Meadows; three brothers, Elmer Crigger and Coy Crigger, both of Speedwell, and Fred Crigger of Fries; three granddaughters, Sherry R. Long, Sheila R. Davenport, and Kristi R. Rash; two grandsons, Barry Ward and Chris Ward; two great-granddaughters, Haven Davenport and Courtney Rash; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 1999, at the Rural Retreat Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Haskett and the Rev. Richard Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. Friends may call after noon Friday at the Lindsey Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. or they may call at the residence at any time. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, is in charge of arrangements.
