Nancy Lee Chalakee, 74, died in Tulsa on June 23, 2009. She was born on August 12, 1934 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Wilson and Mahala (Berryhill) Chalakee. She was an artist and loved to draw in her early years. Later bingo became a favorite activity. Nancy was a member of the Tallahassee Indian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Woodrow Chalakee.
Nancy is survived by her brother, Johnny Chalakee and wife June of Florida, sister Wanda Holcomb and husband John of California, brother, Jim Chalakee and wife Denise of Sapulpa, brother Robert Chalakee and wife Norma of Texas, sister Betsy Harjo of Okmulgee, sister, Linda Thornburgh and husband Mike of Muskogee, sister, Rita Ross of Tulsa and many nieces and nephews.
A wake service will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Tallahassee Indian Church. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. with interment following at the Tallahassee Cemetery. Reverend Alfred Berryhill will officiate. Casket bearers are Christopher Harjo, Billy Chalakee, William Chalakee, Jim Chalakee, Johnny Chalakee, and Robert Chalakee. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
