Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sauk Rapids for Duane F. Ackerman, age 74, who died Sunday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Rev. Ronald Weyrens will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 5:30 p.m., followed by Knights of Columbus Council 11346 at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.
Duane was born Sept. 9, 1936 in Benton County, MN to Bartholomew and Katherine (Ditter) Ackerman. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. Duane married Phyllis Baron on July 2, 1966 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Gilman. He was a farmer for 28 years and a MNDOT Highway Technician in Golden Valley for 18 years, retiring in 2007. Duane was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 11346 and MCCL. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, reading, tractors, and watching the Twins and Vikings. Duane was a foster parent and was caring, patient, and a perfectionist.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of St. Cloud; sons and daughter, Dominic (Orit) of St. Louis Park, Pamela & fiance John Hofstadter of Burnsville, and Eric of St. Cloud; brothers and sisters, Gilbert (Albina) of Sartell, Eleanor McCoy of Cannon Falls, Evelyn (Arvin) Olson of Twin Valley, Kenneth (Mary) of Fridley, and Adrian (Katie) of Sauk Rapids; and grandchildren, Katalina, Phoenix, Kitana, Nakia, Libi and Dalia Ackerman. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Marion Bauer.
