Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the First Presbyterian church for one of its most beloved former pastors, Dr. Jesse Colin Rowan, whose death Sunday at Grace hospital, Morganton, followed a long period of failing health and a short critical illness and operation.
Dr. F. Crossley Morgan, another former pastor of the church, will conduct the rites. The Rev. John H. McKinnon, present pastor, is out of town.
Serving as pallbearers will be Luther T. Hartsell, Jr., G. Patterson Ritchie, William C. Cannon, Leslie J. Correl, Jay Lee Cannon, and Brevard E. Harris.
The body has been brought to the Weddington and Mitchell Funeral Home and will remain there until the funeral hour.
Burial will be made in Oakwood Cemetery.

Dr. Rowan was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Robert Rowan of Carthage. He was educated at Davidson College and Columbia Seminary. He was pastor of the local church from 1922 to 1932 when his health failed. In 1936, he was again called to the church and served it until a second failure of health in 1939 forced his permanent retirement.
Dr. Rowan is survived by his widow, Mrs. Daisy Brady Rowan; three daughters, Mrs. Eugene Brown of Palmetto, Ga,; Mrs. J. C. Fisher of Memphis Tenn.; Miss Henrietta Rowan of the home, one son, Maj. Robert Rowan, who is serving in the European Theater of War; three grandchildren; two brothers, the Rev. Charles Rowan of South Carolina and Holt Rowan of Sanford; and two sisters Miss Lettie Rowan of South Carolina, and Miss Sarah Rowan of Raleigh._________________
