SHELBY-Alice T. Ware left this life on Jan. 11, 2011.

All that knew Alice watched her, tirelessly and without complaint, care for her husband, her children, her mother and her sisters. As her own illness progressed, the example she set by caring for others was picked up by her daughter, Sherry Blanton and her daughter-in-law, Donita Ware. Sherry and Donita provided loving and devoted care for the last years of Alice's life.

Alice was the oldest child, of Dee and Lottie Elmore of Shelby. Two of Alice's beloved sisters and best friends, Lucille Elmore Humphries and Geraldine Elmore Hanna, preceded Alice. Alice's sister, Betty Elmore May, and brothers, Ron Elmore and Don Elmore survive. They loved and respected their oldest sister, who played such a care giving role in all of their lives.

Alice and, her late husband, Maynard B. Ware, provided a welcoming and fun home for the family and all their friends. Alice provided timely interventions on behalf of Garry and Hoyt, when they so frequently went astray. Sherry received instructions on all matters of the home, not a day went by that Sherry was not with, or speaking with, Alice. We will always remember Alice's sly sense of humor, funny sarcasm and ridiculous worry.

Maynard preceded Alice, passing away in 1999.

Alice leaves behind Hoyt and Gina Tessener of Raleigh; Garry and Donita Ware of Shelby; Sherry and Billy Blanton of Shelby, and John and Freida Ware of Fallston. Alice is survived by grandchildren, Ashby Ware, Ariel Lesmerises, Melia Stover, Emily McGinnis, Brinson Blanton, Natalie Ware Smith, Cameron Tessener, Nicholas Tessener, Adrienne Ware and Madison Tessener. Alice was blessed with nine great-grandchildren.

Maw-Maw decorated her house with artwork from Lindsey, Jake and Megan. Maw-Maw was proud to have had the opportunity to hold Hunter.

The family appreciates the care, compassion and companionship of Gracie Benjamin, Seleka Pegram, Gwen Thompson, Gail Mack and Nikki Barron. Their presence allowed Alice to stay for a long time in her home, so she could watch the azaleas bloom and the woodchucks play out her back door.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Clay-Barnette, located at 1401 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby and all other times at the home, 611 Dellinger Road, Shelby
Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home chapel
Burial: 10 a.m. Monday at Cleveland Memorial Park Funeral home: Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Shelby is serving the family
