Emily Hazel Thomann,
80, of Surrency, died Tuesday,
May 4, 2010 in the Pavilion.
Mrs. Thomann was born Aug.
6, 1929 in Appling County to
the late Herschel Clifton and
Ruth Collins Tillman. She
was retired from the Appling
County Board of Education
and a member of the Retired
Teachers Education Association.
She was preceded in
death by her husband, John
Charles Thomann.
She is survived by four
sons, Douglas McGowan of
Glen St. Mary, FL, Clifton
McGowan of Surrency, Dell
McGowan of Savannah and
Timothy McGowan of
Surrency; one sister, Juanita
Henderson of Charlotte, N.C.;
three brothers, Lowell
Tillman of Savannah, Rooney
Tillman of Surrency and
Stanford Tillman of
Hazlehurst.
Funeral services were held
at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 7 at
Bethel United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Jimmy
Gilbert officiating. Interment
followed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
Jasper Tomberlin, Howard
Tomberlin, Blake Tomberlin,
Weston Tomberlin, Ryan
McGowan and Kevin Kesler.
Honorary pallbearers were
all friends in attendance.
Musical selections were
rendered by Bethel United
Methodist Church Choir.
Arrangements were under
the direction of Swain Funeral
Home.
