Services for Max Luverne Shannon, 63, were held Monday at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Rev. Larry Gander, pastor, officiated the services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Max passed away December 30, 1998, at Mercy Hospital Medical Clinic in Des Moines.

Born December 15, 1935, at Adelphi, Polk county, Iowa, Max was the son of Henry and Alta Deaton Shannon. He lived in Newton for 8 years and Monroe for most of the rest of his life. He worked at Maytag and was a member of the U.A.W.

Survivors are one son, Ricky Shannon of Newton; two daughters, Kim Bazer of Newton and Tammy DeHaai of Ankeny; four grandchildren; one brother and three sisters, Marlin Shannon of Newton, Jean Shannon of Newton, Helen Colyn of Monroe, and Marlene Versteeg of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
