Madeline Judy Spencer Freeman

Mrs. Madeline Judy Spencer Freeman, 84, a resident of Dayton, died at 11:10 Wednesday morning at the Bridgewater Home where she had been a resident for several days.

A daughter of the late Joseph W. and Elizabeth Sponaugle Judy, she was born on Dec. 16, 1924 in Zigler, WV. She had formerly made her home in Charlottesville for 25 years and had been living in Dayton since 1986.

Mrs. Freeman graduated from Dayton High School and was bookkeeper for Mid Valley Hatchery and was co-owner of Freeman Motor Co. She had also worked in the Film Records Department at the University of Virginia Hospital and was a member of the Dayton Church of the Brethren.

She was twice married. Her first husband John Welby Spencer preceded her in death in 1959. In 1960 she married Edward L. Freeman who died in 1978.

She is survived by one brother, Raeburn Judy of Dayton; one sister Ramona Crowe, of Keezletown; a sister-in-law, Leona Judy of Richmond, two nieces, Susan Threewitts and her husband, Bob of Keezletown and Barbara Judy of Richmond, and a nephew James Judy and his wife, Nancy of Germantown, MD.

She was preceded in death by a son who died at birth, Joseph Edward Spencer and a brother, Joseph Wreford Judy.

A Graveside Service will be held at two o'clock Friday afternoon, Dec. 17, in the Dayton Cemetery with the Rev. Marty Doss officiating.

Friends may call at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home; however there will be no formal visitation and the casket will be closed.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1920 H. Medical Ave., Harrisonburg, VA 22801; the Dayton Cemetery, PO Box 383, Dayton, VA 22821; or a charity of one's choice.
