His first wife was Margarett E. Stallings for whom he married August 22, 1860 in Edgecombe County, NC. Family information states that she and their child died and were buried while he was serving in the Civil War. His second wife was Missouri Hilda Ruffin. They were married February 27, 1868 in Edgecombe County, NC, and had 13 children, William Pollard, Joseph Winfield, Thomas D., James R., Amancer "Mance", Robert W., Frank, Baldy Staton, Pattie, Annis, John Daniel, Henry Turner, and Oscar Edmondson. His third wife was Mary Jane Phillips, daughter of William Phillips and Polly Ann Causeway and widow of John Phillips. They were married January 27, 1898 in Edgecombe County, NC and had three children, Esther G., Ethel, and Eva Mazel Edmondson.
