Obituary - Leon O. Hanold
Leon O. Hanold, 89, of 336 Madison St., Sligo, died at 9 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2004, in the Brookville Hospital.
Born Aug. 4, 1914, in the Village of Easton, Licking Township, Clarion County, he was the son of David and Margaret Weeter Hanold.
He lived at the family homestead most of his adult life until moving to Sligo in 1985.
Mr. Hanold worked most of his life in the coal fields, retiring in 1980 from C&K Coal Co.
He was a Protestant.
Mr. Hanold was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed walking.
He was married in Clarion April 6, 1940, to the former Phoebe A. Kerr, who survives. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last month.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters and their husbands, Rosalie and Tom Jackson of Parker, Victorie and Wilbert Showers of Knox and Penny and Larry Gourley of Sligo; six grandchildren, Lynette Slagle, Stacie Showers and Thadd Showers, all of Knox, and Melissa Custer, Paula Haines and Misty Gourley, all of Sligo; and five great-grandchildren, Matthew Slagle and Jeanna Showers, both of Knox, Tanner Custer, Amber Haines and Dillon Haines, all of Sligo.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hanold was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertha Ewing and Jennie Clark; seven brothers, Charles, Roy, Howard, Paul, Arthur and two infants, Ralph and Harry Hanold; and one granddaughter, Tara Lee Showers.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Rapp, pastor of the Callensburg Church of God, officiating.
Interment will follow in Cedarview Memorial Park near Strattanville.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Sligo Volunteer Fire Co., Sligo, 16255.
