Francis Butland (6514641)

A "short time" after being discharged (according to his wife) they moved to Kittery and he began working in the Naval yard(s) there until he was appointed Boatswain at the Kittery Naval Yard (11 Feb 1871). He also had 12 years sea service, during which time he contracted rheumatic fever. He was serving on the US Steamer Pensacola in Aug 1880 when a further bout resulted in him being admitted to the Naval Hospital on Mare Island (Vallejo, CA), and he remained there until his death 20 Feb 1881. He is buried in the Mare Island Naval Cemetery and is also commemorated at the Ocean View Cemetery, Wells, Maine.
