A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Lifus and Annie Moore Edwards and the husband of Lena Edwards.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Richard Bernard Edwards and a sister, Verna Carpenter.
R.B. was a dispatcher for the Yancey County Sheriffs Office for a number of years, then a mail carrier for the Burnsville township, later working at Henredon Furniture. He was on the Board of Directors for the ASCS office for agriculture and a dedicated and lifetime member of the Bald Creek Masonic Lodge #397 AF & AM.
Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Lena Johnson Edwards; a sister, Bernice Edwards of Rockford, Tenn.; and a brother-in-law, Heyser Carpenter, also of Rockford. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends also survive.
The graveside service was held Thursday, April 16th at the Edwards Family Cemetery in Bald Mountain
