Rock Musician. He was the original lead guitarist and co-founder of the influential alternative rock-funk band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers with childhood friends: Anthony Kiedis, Flea and Jack Irons. His guitar work was rooted in funk and hard rock, and Slovak often experimented with other genres including: reggae and speed metal. He is considered to have been a major influence on the Red Hot Chili Peppers' early sound. He recorded the albums "Freaky Styley" (1985) and "The Uplift Mofo Party Plan" (1987) with them along with "The Abbey Road E.P." (1988). Upon his death, he was replaced by guitarist John Frusciante. In 2012, Slovak was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
