Born October 3, 1937, in Monroe County, he was the son of the late Ivory and Viola (Pate) Purtlebaugh. He was employed at Allison in Indiananpolis as a tool & die maker before retiring.
George is survived by his loving wife, Lillian (Sample) Purtlebaugh and James K. Purtlebaugh Sr.,both of Bloomington; 1 brother, Dennis Purtlebaugh of Bloomington; 4 half sisters, Linda Robertson, Pam Derrick, Carla Mitchell and Patricia Williams; 2 granddaughters, Jenny Hendrickson and Angela Gladson; 2 grandsons, Robert Duane Purtlebaugh II & James K. Purtlebaugh jr, 9 great-grandchildren, Robert Purtlebaugh III, Lacey Purtlebaugh, Hannah Purtlebaugh, Leanna Gladson, Jacey hendrickson, Reid Hendrickson, Emma Purtlebaugh, Jacob Purtlebaugh and Gaby Purtlebaugh.
He is preceded in death, in addition to the parents, by 2 brothers, Don & Wayne Purtlebaugh.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Day Funeral Home, with Pastor Jon Miller officiating. Private burial will be at Payne Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Day Funeral Home, Wednesday 4-8 p.m.
