Elizabeth Harrell Disosway, a resident of New Bern, NC, died January 21, 2007 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital at the age of 86.

Mrs. Disosway was born in Gates, NC to the late Dempsey Shepherd and Rosa E. Harrell. In 1937 she graduated from Gates High School as salutatorian of her class. In 1941 she received AB degrees in English, French and history from East Carolina Teachers College. She did graduate work at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. For many years she taught English and history in the public schools in Weeksville, Angier, Wilson and New Bern.

She was a member of the Retired School Personnel in which she held local, district and state offices. She was a charter member of the national sorority Alpha Delta Kappa-Beta Gamma Chapter and Alpha Fidelis Sigma. She was the leader of the METS at Christ Episcopal Church and also a member of St. Frances Chapter. She was a member of the Golden Age Club and was president of the group from 2000-2001. She was a member of Eastern Star chapter 129.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Justice (Jack) Disosway, her parents, five sisters, including her twin, and two brothers. She is survived by her son, John Disosway, Jr. and wife Rebecca of Louisa, VA; her daughter, Marjorie Disosway Purgason and husband Frank of Stafford, VA; grandson, Benjamin Purgason and granddaughter Kristin Purgason both of Stafford, VA and a number of devoted nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service were held at Christ Episcopal Church with Rev., Dr. Canon Peter Stube and Rev. Ronnie Lee Eason officiating.

Commital services will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park in New Bern.
