CARY -- Charles Vandiver Teague, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, in Heartfields of Cary. He was born December 15, 1913 in Stony Point, to James and Lula Rickert Teague. Following high school he worked for A&P in Boone and Hickory, then joined Pepsi-Cola in Hickory as sales manager. Mr. Teague spent his entire career with Pepsi, ultimately managing sales for the Western part of the state. He proudly served his country in the US Army as a Captain in the medical corps during WW II. Mr. Teague was a member of First Baptist Church in Hickory, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School leader, and chaired deacons, finance and building committees. He was a member and past President of the Lions Club of Hickory and a recipient of the prestigious Stickley Award. He also belonged to the Hickory Coffee Club and the Traveler's Protective Assn., where he served as past president. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Adelaide Shuford Teague; his children, The Rev. Dr. C. Steven Teague and wife, Karen of Wilmington and Adele Teague Wolfe and husband, Ralph of Cary; grandchildren, Zach and Josh Tysinger, and Ben and Stephanie Teague; a sister, Lula Mae Church of Charlotte and brother, Jim Teague of Houston; sistersin-law, Inez Starnes and Phyllis Shuford, both of Hickory, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 30 at 11 AM in First Baptist Church, Hickory, with the Rev. Dr. Bill Leathers and the Rev. Pat Pearce officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 PM Tuesday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. Gifts in Mr. Teague's memory may be made to: the Byler Organ Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, 339 First Ave. NW, Hickory, 28601. The family expresses deep gratitude to Heartfields Assisted Living of Cary, for their extraordinary love and care over the last 15 months.
