Richard (Dick) K. Carrick, age 71, of Rockford passed away unexpectedly in FL, on Feb 28th. Dick was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred (Holly) Carrick, and father, Frank Carrick, Dick was born in Roscommon County (Houghton Lake), MI, and grew up in Vestaburg, MI. After attending Michigan State University, he made Rockford his home. Dick was employed by Wolverine Worldwide for the majority of his working career as its head of purchasing. He ended his career in purchasing at Amway (Alticor) of Ada with retirement in 2001. Dick's passion in life was helping others. This was evident in his 18 yrs of service as a volunteer EMT for Rockford Ambulance. Dick was also a volunteer with the Cannonsburg Ski Patrol for the last 10 yrs. He lived life to the maximum and enjoyed every moment. He had a motto, "If you rest, you will rust". So he ran, he biked, he rock-climbed, he snow-skied, he hiked, he climbed trees in need of pruning, and did just about anything else that presented him with a physical or emotional challenge. Although Dick was involved in a variety of activities, family was by far the most important to him. He never let anything get in the way of time he could spend with his loved ones. He is survived by wife, Janese, son Tom Carrick (Laura), daughter Darci Bryan (Chad), stepdaughter Jill Gregory (Steven), grand children, Gage, Gina, Ian, and Matthew. Brothers and Sisters, Emma Hinton, Ula Keeler (Al), Ken Carrick (Marie), Russ Carrick (Barb), Darrell Carrick (Ginny), Gordon Carrick (Mary), Vanessa Savage (Tom), Melvin Carrick (Carolyn), Ernie Carrick (Cookie), and Linda Anderson (Lee). For those who wish to express their sympathy, please consider donations to Vitas Hospice, 2075 Loch Lomond Dr., Winter Park, FL 32792. The compassion and tenderness of the staff during the last few days of Dick's life was comforting.
