Augusta, GA – Chester Mallie Willis, Sr., 57, entered into rest on Sunday, January 9, 2011, at University Hospital.
A funeral mass was celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Thomas Healy officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Chester was born in Brooklyn, NY. He earned his BS degree in Political Science, minor in History from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA. He attended John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, GA for two years before earning his Masters degree in Education, concentration in Psychology and Counseling from Troy University in Augusta, GA. Chester worked as a safety officer for the Augusta –Richmond County Government Risk Management office and was an Adjunct Faculty member for Aiken Technical College, Southern Wesleyan University, and the University of Phoenix. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served on various committees. Chester enjoyed spending time with his family and was a loving husband, father, son, and brother. He also enjoyed fishing, writing, painting, and was a motorcycle enthusiast.
Survivors include his loving wife of 32 years, Dr. Marilyn Devoe Willis, his mother, Inez Lyons Willis, two sons, Chester Mallie Willis, II and wife Dr. Jaqueline Mar'se Willis of Nashville, TN, Matthew Devoe Willis of Augusta, GA, one daughter, Jessica Nyel Hartley and husband Dr. Daniel LeClair Hartley and grandson, Hunter Davis all of Forest Hills, NY, one sister, Robyn Willis Jeoffroy and husband Garry E. Jeoffroy of Atlanta, GA, his niece, Abbria Betena McWhites and husband Sean Renort McWhite, great nephew, Knoah Amahrii McWhite all of High Point, NC, uncle, Joseph Willis and wife Dr. Cheryl Willis of Augusta, GA, their children, Cheryl Willis, Joseph Willis, II, Carmaleita Lyght and husband Jacoby Lyght, Johann Willis, uncle, Marion Allyn Lee of Martinez, GA, great aunt, Marion Murphy of Brooklyn, NY, mother in law, Ida Mandrell Devoe, sisters-in-law, Thelma D.
