WHITEVILLE--Vernon "Bill" Lassister Fore, 77, died Wednesday, Jan, 5, 2011, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center. He was the son of the late Homer Lamar Fore and Sarah Spivey Fore.

Fore retired from the United States Navy and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

A mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 7 from 6-8 p.m. at McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Kathleen Fore of Whiteville; 2 sons, Vernon L. Fore, Jr. and Robert Lamar Fore of San Diego, Calif; 2 step-sons, Michael Freeman of New Orleans, LA, and Thomas J. Abramson of San Diego, Calif; 2 step-daughters, Elizabeth M. Blum of Memphis, Tenn, and Catherine L. Castillo of Whiteville; sister, Margaret Faulk of Nakina; brother, Robert Lamar Fore, of Whiteville; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
