Ida Belle Ruckwied, a "Gold Star Mother of WWI", was the second daughter of Christopher "Chris" Ruckwied and Margaret Ann Shaneyfelt. Ida attended school up to the 8th grade at a one-room brick schoolhouse in Salamonia, Madison Twp., Jay County, Indiana.

Ida B. Ruckwied age 18, married her 1st husband Joseph William Darst, the son of Sarah Eva Davidson and Joseph Vinton Darst. They were married on November 26th, 1893 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana. They had two children together; a son Morris Vernon Darst born May 10th, 1896 and a daughter Mabel Winifred Darst born February 6th, 1899.

Michigan Marriage Record lists: Ida B. Ruckweid-Dorst age 37 occupation Housework, married her 2nd husband, Joseph E. Andrews age 40 occupation Horseman, the son of Fermine Carmichel Andrews and Nancy Ann Harter. They were married on November 27th, 1912 in Allegan, Allegan County, Michigan. Their residence was listed as Portland, Indiana. They both had children from a prior marriage. Ida had two children; a son Morris Vernon Darst and a daughter Mabel Winifred Darst. Joe had a son, Clyde D. Andrews.

The 1920 US-Census for Madison, Jay County, Indiana lists: Joseph E. Andrews age 46, Married-HOH-Farmer, wife Ida B. Andrews age 43, Ida's son-in-law Clyde D. Andrews age 24, and her son Vernon M. Darst age 23. All listed born in Indiana.

In the spring of 1921, Ida's son Morris Vernon Darst (1896-1921) from her 1st marriage, and her stepson from her 2nd marriage Clyde D. Andrews (1895-1921), both died a few weeks apart and are buried next to each other at Green Park Cemetery. Her son Morris died of war wounds received during WWI, and her stepson and future son-in-law Clyde died in an automobile accident. Both young men were World War I US Army Veterans.

Ida's daughter Winifred married Quimba Oral Hollowell, the son of Abner LeRoy Hollowell and Fannie Ollie Swihart. They were married on June 27th, 1923 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana.

The 1930 US-Census for Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana lists: Ida B. Andrews age 54, Head of Household, Married, born in Indiana. Parents birthplace; father born in Germany and mother born in Indiana. (Husband not listed in Census.)

The 1940 US-Census for Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana lists: Ida B. Andrews age 64, Head of Household with an 8th grade education. Also listed is her sister Emma Lee age 65, with a 4th grade education. Both sisters are Widows and born in Indiana.

Ida was buried on September 8th, 1952 at Green Park Cemetery, Portland, Jay County, Indiana. The grave sites of both Ida's children are nearby.
