He was born September 16, 1914, to Amy (Anderson) and George C. Brown in Eau Claire, where he grew up.
Charles married Irene D. Skaw on December 16, 1941, in Eau Claire. After their marriage, he and Irene made their home in Eau Claire until moving to Lake Wissota in 1963, then to Chippewa Falls in 1980.
In 2001, Irene became a resident of Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Charles moved to Deer Run Condominiums in Eau Claire. In December 2003, Charles moved into Heather Wood, an assisted living facility in Eau Claire.
He served during WW II in the U.S. Army, 79th Infantry, from June 1942 until June 1946. After his discharge, he was a member of the American Legion Post #52 and the DAV Post #10 of Eau Claire.
He began working at Uniroyal on May 20, 1936, where he was employed until retiring on May 20, 1976, as an inspector.
He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of Chippewa Falls; two sisters, Mildred Martin of Eau Claire, and Betty Lou Bauer of Hartland; a brother, Clyde (Lucille) Brown of Eau Claire; his brother-in-law, Ray (Elaine) Skaw of Rice Lake; and nieces and nephews, Donald (Marjorie) Brown, Ronald (Helen) Martin, Curt (Diana) Bauer, Rojean (Jim) Beyreis, Judy (David) Lemke and Edward (Janet) Skaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Ned Lenhart officiating. The Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will conduct military rites at the church following the service. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, town of Washington, Eau Claire County.
