Attis Waldon Bennett, 83, of Cecilia, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Russell County and a member of Glendale Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War and he was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 113, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Purple Heart Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jonah and Lalie Floyd Bennett; and two sisters, Imogene Bell and Dean Bernard. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jeane Barnes Bennett of Cecilia; four sons, Dwight (Charlotte) Bennett, David (Val) Bennett and Dennis Bennett, all of Indianapolis, and Ken (Karen) Shearwood III of Cincinnati; four daughters, Sandy (Tim) Rohling and Amy (Mike) Bell, all of Cincinnati, Cindy (William) Simpson of Jamestown and Tina (John) Hennis of Indianapolis; three sisters, Pauline Flanagan of Somerset, Doris Gunter of Cincinnati and Delpha Moore of North Dakota; a special dear friend, John D. Ward of Huntsville, Ala.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glendale Christian Church with Brother Mike Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown and continues after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church.
