Charles Richard Carpenter
A former Kewanna resident, missing since Jan. 6, was found Thursday by police who dragged Fall Creek on the north side of Indianapolis at the request of relatives of the man.
The body of Charles Richard CARPENTER, 43, was discovered some 50 minutes after the dragging operation began. The Pulaski county farmer left his Indianapolis hospital room on Jan. 6 clad only in pajamas, a robe and slippers.
Earlier on the day he disappeared Carpenter left the Methodist hospital and walked to the St. Vincent's hospital several blocks away to visit his wife who also was ill. Mrs. Carpenter's physician returned him to his hospital room. He was being treated for a nervous breakdown.
Mr. Carpenter was born Aug. 5, 1911, in Logansport, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Barker CARPENTER. He was a graduate of Logansport high school. A Navy veteran of World War II, he belonged to the Winamac VFW. He was affiliated with the Calvary Presbytrian church.
Survivors include the widow, Velma [CARPENTER], still seriously ill in the family's R.R. 3, Kewanna home; his mother, Mrs. Ethel CARPENTER, R.R. 3, Kewanna; one brother, James [CARPENTER], of Royal Center; and one niece and one nephew.
Funeral services will be condeucted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Fisher Funeral Home in Logansport, with the Rev. Harold KING officiating. Burial will be in the Davis cemetery.
