He was born Dec. 6, 1918, in Ciales, Puerto Rico, and lived in Lorain since 1950.
Baez was employed for more than 20 years at Elyria Foundry, retiring in 1983.
He devoted his time to ministry for prisoners at local jails and was a member of Grace Gospel Hall, Pentecostal Iglesia Christina and Local del Evangelico.
Survivors include his son, Jose Baez Jr. of Lorain; daughter, Josefina ''Tina'' Gonzalez of Lorain; brother, Cruz, of Carolina, Puerto Rico; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia (nee Gonzalez), in 1967; his second wife, Lydia; brothers; Ramon, Antonio and Manuel; and sisters; Lydia and Herminia.
Friends may call Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave. , Lorain, where services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
