Rachel was a graduate of Gibsonville High School, and she dedicated her life to her church and community.
Survivors include her sister, Dixie Hammer Linville of Winston-Salem; her niece, Dee Ann Robbs and her husband, Larry of Winston-Salem; her nephew, Chip Linville and his wife, Dianne of Winston-Salem; sister-in-law, Margaret Stevens of Greensboro; six beloved grand nieces and nephews and eight great grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Charles C. and Lottie May Riggins Hammer; brother, W.D. Hammer and an infant brother, Charles Hammer.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Gibsonville by Rev. Jim Upchurch and assisted by Rev. Brian Ayers. A private burial will be held at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The First Baptist Church of Gibsonville, 221 Piedmont Avenue, Gibsonville, NC 27249 or the W. D. Hammer VFW Post # 2972, 4323 Boonewood Road, Gibsonville, NC 27249.
