BASTROP, LA. Funeral services for Eugene Herlong will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home with the Reverend Marty Black officiating. Interment with military funeral honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening January 5th beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop.
Early Eugene Herlong was born October 7, 1952 in Bastrop, Louisiana to Minnie Hamby Herlong and Clifton Cecil Herlong. He passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop. Eugene was a 1971 graduate of Bastrop High School, a veteran of the United States Army, and a retired paper machine 1 & 2 operator with International Paper Company. Eugene is preceded in death by his father, Clifton C. Herlong; paternal grandparents, Cecil C. Herlong and Edna Herlong Odom; and maternal grandparents, Ernest E. Hamby and Lorene Hamby.
Eugene is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Polk and her husband Brian, a granddaughter, Marykate Polk all of Fort Worth, Texas; his mother, Minnie Herlong Haddick of Bastrop; two sisters, Carolyn Bullock and her husband, Terry of Smith, Alabama and Sharon Harrell and her husband, Larry of Bastrop; nephew, Trent Bullock; two nieces, Kristy Vickers and Mindy Bullock; six great-nieces, Meredith Vickers, Ashley Vickers, Kara Bullock, Trena Bullock, Tessa Bullock and Brystal Bullock; one great nephew, Hunter Vickers and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Serving as pallbearers are David Vickers, Hunter Vickers, Roy Jones, Wayne Jones, Jimmy Coffin, and Heath Calhoun.
Honorary pallbearer will be Trent Bullock.
