Mrs. Mildred L. Ward, 71, of Germantown, died Wednesday, January 31, at Suburban Hospital after a lengthy illness at home. Taken to the hospital on January 27, Mrs. Ward made no improvement in her heart condition. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Clagett of Gaithersburg and lived in Gaithersburg until her marriage to M. Spencer Ward, a farmer in the Darnestown-Germantown area. A charter member of the Grace Methodist Church in Gaithersburg, Mrs. Ward transferred her membership to the Darnestown Presbyterian Church after her marriage, and was an active member the rest of her life.
Recently the Women's Association presented her with a National Missions honorary membership.
Surviving are her husband, M. Spencer Ward, one son, Maurice Ward, of Darnestown; three daughters, Mrs. Frances Ward Darby, of Kensington, Mrs. Hope Ward Craver, of near Spencerville; and Miss La Rue Ward, of the home address; a sister, Miss Estelle Clagett, of Gaithersburg; and six grandchildren. A brother, Rev. Raymond Clagett, is deceased.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Tyson Wheeler funeral home, Rockville. A largely attended service was held in the Darnestown Church on Sunday afternoon, with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Daniel C. Manson, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. Thomas Painter, pastor of the Kensington Baptist Church.
