U S Coast Guard WW IIZANESVILLE - Clyde Holbert Jr., 84, of Zanesville, died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Genesis Hospice - Morrison House. He was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Zanesville, a son of the late Clyde and Eleanor Norris Holbert. He retired as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office after 34 years of service. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, where a served as a Eucharist Minister, assisted the Educational Director for the RCIA Classes. Clyde was the Director of Education and member of the Executive Board for the Ohio State Association of Letter Carriers for 24 years. He served on the board of Muskinghum Area Technical College from 1974-1977. He also served on the City of Zanesville Zoning Board of Appeals for a number of years and was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Coast Guard.

Surviving are his son, Michael Ward Holbert of Zanesville; his stepmother, Mary Goins of Zanesville; a stepbrother, Charles "Buddy" (Betty) Hodge of Zanesville; six special friends, Carole Donley of Zanesville, Fran Harris of Zanesville, Chris Rice of Crooksville, Ed Fee of Somerset, Father Emmanuel Bertrand, O.P., of Zanesville, and Salvadore Pate of Steubenville; and many other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Estis Holbert, who died Oct. 29, 1992.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, where Vigil services will be held at 3:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 144 N. Fifth St., Zanesville, with Father Emmanuel Bertrand, O.P. as celebrant. Burial will follow with full military honors provided by the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Zanesville.
