RODANTHE - Ruford Benjamin Payne, 70, died Sunday morning, March 22, 1964, at his home in Rodanthe following a short illness.

He was a native of Creeds Hill and had lived in Rodanthe for the past several years. He was a retired fisherman, son of the late John Thomas and Frances Gray Payne, and a member of Fair Haven Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sudie Midgett Payne; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian A. Payne [should be Midgett] and Mrs. Ruby Mae Toler of Rodanthe; one sister, Mrs. Sadie Quidley of Buxton; two brothers [step-brothers], Jethro Payne of Wanchese and Parrow Payne of Salvo; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday in Fair Haven Methodist Church by the Rev. Willie J. Evans, pastor. Burial will follow in the family cemetery.

~~~~~~~~RODANTHE - Funeral services for Ruford Benjamin Payne, who died Sunday were conducted Wednesday in Fair Haven Methodist Church by the Rev. Willie J. Evans, pastor. The casket was covered with a pall of red and white carnations.

During the services the church choir sang "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" and "The Last Mile of the Way" and Mrs. Louise Leary sang "Beyond the Sunset" accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Jack Cahoon. At the graveside the choir sang "The Great Speckled Bird" and Mrs. Leary sang "God Be With You".

Pallbearers were Dick Midgett, Herbert Midgett, Cecil Midgett, Julian Gray, Asa Gray, Sr. and Valton Midgett. Burial was in the family plot.
