Charles Edward "Charlie Mac" McMahan, 75, went home to be with his Lord following a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center.

A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was the son of the late Glenn Charles and Reva Daves McMahan.

He retired in 1997 from BASF following 35 years of service where he served as a control room operator and was an U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was of the Baptist faith and loved the Lord. An all round athlete, he enjoyed baseball, softball, basketball and golf. He was also an avid racing fan and was an active crew member on his son's NASCAR Southeast Series team through 2005. He loved nature, hiking and his beloved Tar Heels.

He is survived by the love of his life and his best friend of 52 years, Jo Ann Calloway McMahan, son, Terry Michael McMahan and wife, Jennifer, granddaughter, Ashley McMahan and a number of special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Rash and Rev. Davis Plemmons officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
