Eugene Ross Donat was born October 10, 1927 in Fayette Co. IA on the 1858 home farm. He graduated from Maynard High School in 1945. He earned a BA degree in Economics graduating with academic honors from the University of Northern Iowa Cedar Falls in 1951. From 1951 until 1961 he was with Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids IA and Dallas TX as corporate manager of data processing methods.
He simultaneously attended the State University of Iowa in Iowa City earning a MA degree in Industrial Management in 1954. He subsequently completed all resident courses and qualifying exams for a PhD in Business Administration in 1960.
In 1956 he was awarded the Lybrand Gold Medal by the National Association of Accountants. Outside of work, he taught many adult evening college courses on data processing, spoke to various professional groups and was president of data processing and adult education associations.
He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies, Elks lodge and Toastmasters. From 1961 to 1963 he was managing associate in the consulting division of Arthur Young & Co. He personally designed and operationally installed computerization of the Chicago Board of Trade.
He married Eileen Clark on June 21, 1964 in Mineola, Long Island. From 1966 to 1970 he was aerospace group director of management technology with Rockwell International in Los Angeles. He personally peformed major studies supporting the Apollo Moon Craft and the Minuteman Intercontinental Missile programs. From 1970 to 1973 he was with Litton Industries as chief consultant of corporate consultings services. He performed high-level assignments on-site with their diversified foreign subsidiaries. From 1973 to 1982 he was corporate director of management information systems at City Investing. In his several positions from 1961 to 1982 he frequently assumed direct management of clients data processing departments. He frequently performed comprehensive analytical studies of entire company's management, structure, operation, controls and staff performance.
In 1982 at the age of 54, he realized a long-held goal of early retirement, in order to pursue a host of personal interests, after 35 years of fast-paced professional activity. He customized and furnished his new condominium; continued his collection of oriental art, photography, furniture making, and the attendance of local music, theater, and special events. He attended classes on Asian and European cooking. He has traveled to over 60 foreign countries. Most recently he has been doing extensive research and writing on the Donat family history and family tree.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Donat born Jan. 13, 1965 and daughter Carol Donat born Jan. 4, 1966 both of Bend, Oregon He is also survived by his brother Stanley Donat of Randalia IA and sister Arlene Samuelson of Cedar Falls IA. Another brother Gail Donat was mortally wounded in WWII. Many grand nieces and nephews also survive. Interment will be in Sumner IA.
