Avery Shaw

Avery G. Shaw, 78, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 13, 2010, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin.

Avery was born Feb. 13, 1932, in Russell County, Ky., to Russell A. and Fannie (Burton) Shaw. He married his loving wife of 57 years, Alice M. (Brown) Shaw, on Nov. 27, 1952, in Jeffersonville. She survives.

Avery was the loving father to Elaine Sisson and her husband Michael of Trafalgar, Ruby Ann Caddel of Franklin, and Joseph D. Shaw and his wife Tamara of Shelbyville. He will be remembered by his six grandchildren, Tammi Weaver, Michelle Henry, Joseph D. Caddel III, Brett E. Reigel, Joseph D. Shaw Jr. and Krista May Shaw; six great-grandchildren, Haley, Samantha, Alysia, Noah, Bjorn and Sarah; and several nieces and nephews.

Avery was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Garret Wayne Shaw; granddaughter, Sarah E. Shaw; sister, Jane Shaw; and four brothers, Carson, Edward, James and Hubert Shaw.

He retired after 40 years as a precision grinder working with tool and die shops in Franklin, Greenwood, Indianapolis and Martinsville. He held the same position for 10 years in Pomona Valley, Calif.

Avery enjoyed working on cars and spending time at his property in Kentucky, and was a fan of WWF wrestling.

A celebration of life service was conducted Wednesday, March 17, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Visitation was prior to service time Wednesday.
