To the best of family knowledge Mary Elizabeth Gurley came to Micro, NC as an indentured servent and later married John Henry Pittman. It is told that she was from Italy and her birth name is unknown. She was adopted by a Gurley family, but in all my research I have never been able to connect her to any of the Gurley families in Johnston Co., NC. She and John Henry Pittman were my great-grandparents.
